John Wallis – Newcastle Emlyn 5kw Vaillant Arotherm +

A small end of terrace stone house in Newcastle Emlyn being fully renovated to be used as a holiday home.

With no mains gas and limited space for an oil tank, an air source heat pump is the best option for our client.

Our client wanted a heat source that is both clean and efficient, but also something that is low in maintenance that requires minimal interference. A 5kw Vaillant arotherm + air source heat pump was the best option for him and using weather compensated controls and underfloor heating on both the ground and first floor. Running at 38°C flow temperature we have provided a system that will deliver a comfortable and constant 21°C inside all year round without any interference needed beyond commissioning.

Using a wet under floor system has allowed us to design a very efficient system as this enables us to design a low flow temperature. The benefits of this system is a more comfortable feel and it doesn’t require taking up wall space which was also limited on this project. Though it was a challenge to install underfloor heating on the first floor we were able to overcome this by using different methods of fitting aluminium trays to carry the pipe and distribute heat evenly.
